Galleri Test For the Early Detection of Cancer

What is the Galleri Test?

Clinical Evidence

GRAIL’s multi-cancer early detection test

What if you found cancer early enough to make a difference? The earlier that cancer can be found, the higher the chance of successful treatment and survival. Yet, too often cancer goes undetected until it has progressed to an advanced stage.

In studies, the Galleri test has shown the ability to detect multiple types of cancers through a single blood draw. Most of these cancers cannot be detected through current screening paradigms. When cancer signal was detected, the Galleri test localized the cancer signal with high accuracy, helping inform next steps to diagnosis. When cancers are diagnosed early before they have had a chance to spread, the overall 5-year survival rate is 4x higher than when they are diagnosed in later stages.

The Galleri test is intended to be complementary to, and not a replacement of, U.S. guideline-recommended cancer screening. Today, routine screening is recommended for certain patients for breast, cervical, colorectal, lung and prostate cancers. Galleri complements single cancer screenings for more comprehensive early cancer detection. The Galleri test is not intended to replace these important screenings.

The Galleri test is recommended for use in adults with an elevated risk for cancer, such as those aged 50 or older. It is intended to be used in addition to and not replace other cancer screening tests your healthcare provider recommends.
Use of Galleri is not recommended in individuals who are pregnant, 21 years old or younger, or undergoing active cancer treatment.

Not all cancers can be detected by the Galleri test. Once your results are available, Dr. Lawenda will discuss appropriate follow-up testing you should have done with your healthcare provider to confirm if cancer is present.

In the event that a diagnostic evaluation after a Cancer Signal Detected” result with the Galleri test does not confirm cancer, patients may be eligible for a complimentary retest with the Galleri test.

The request for a retest must be placed by the healthcare provider managing the patient’s diagnostic evaluation. The retest must be administered within 3 – 6 months after the initial Galleri test.

Important safety information

The Galleri™ test is recommended for use in adults with an elevated risk for cancer, such as those aged 50 or older. The Galleri test does not detect all cancers and should be used in addition to routine cancer screening tests recommended by a healthcare provider. Galleri is intended to detect cancer signals and predict where in the body the cancer signal is located. Results should be interpreted by a healthcare provider in the context of medical history, clinical signs and symptoms. A test result of “Cancer Signal Not Detected” does not rule out cancer. A test result of “Cancer Signal Detected” requires confirmatory diagnostic evaluation by medically established procedures (e.g., imaging) to confirm cancer.

If cancer is not confirmed with further testing, it could mean that cancer is not present or testing was insufficient to detect cancer, including due to the cancer being located in a different part of the body. False-positive (a cancer signal detected when cancer is not present) and false-negative (a cancer signal not detected when cancer is present) test results do occur. Galleri is prescription only.
